Cattery

Blaenwinllan Boarding Cattery stands in a tranquil streamside setting in the heart of Carmarthenshire and enjoys glorious views of the rich and diverse wildlife which thrives in Blaenwinllan’s gardens and bluebell woods.

Facilities

The cattery is a purpose-built facility. Each individual full-height chalet is lined and insulated and is heated AT ALL TIMES by thermostatically controlled infra-red lamps (see below). Each chalet has its own covered outdoor run with sun shelf and scratching posts and is separated from its neighbour by a two-foot gap so that all the cats can see each other but cannot come into contact. This also allows the free circulation of air around every unit, ensuring optimum conditions for a healthy environment. The design takes modern licence conditions and enhances them; its beauty is that, whilst conforming to all the usual health regulations, it provides an abundance of both fresh air and natural light and affords a panoramic view of the beautiful setting, thus maximising stimulation for all the cats during their stay.

Heating

Heating is by infra-red lamp which is operational at all times unless conditions are exceptionally warm. The lamps are thermostatically controlled, meaning that no matter what the outside temperature, the cats’ sleeping quarters are always snug, comfortable and kept at a constant temperature. Furthermore, infra-red is a superior and extremely therapeutic form of heating – for this reason it is often used for the treatment of arthritis in people – and is enormously beneficial to the cats’ coats, giving them a glossy and healthy sheen.

Bedding

Customers are asked to bring a bed or beds for their cats’ stay. Wicker or plastic are ideal, furnished with something such as an old blanket or woolly with which he or she is familiar.

Feeding

The cattery is equipped with its own self-contained kitchen. A wide selection of foods is available and the cat’s home diet is followed as closely as possible. Prescription diets must be provided by the owner.

Soundbite

I have always been impressed by James’s knowledge of all aspects of feline health, care and management of illness… I have every confidence in his ability…
